In part I chapter one on page 10, the first paragraph talks about how much Louie resembles his mother Louise. I found it very interesting how they both have such similar personalities and names and wondered if this was a coincidence or not, like if Louie was named after his mother. But I also questioned this because the book does talk about how Pete is also mischievous but just doesn't get caught, "' Pete never got caught," said Sylvia. "Louie always got caught"'( Hillenbrand 8). This made me wonder if Pete also retained his mischievous ways from his mother.

I feel like Pete is just better than Louie at what he does. He does not get caught because he might be more experienced or wiser than Louie. He might take after his mother a little, but they really do not see the rebellious side of Pete. He has a good reputation in their eyes, yet its a bit of a myth. I do think Louie gets caught more because he is trying to be like Pete but he is still trying to figure out how to do that. Pete is Louie's role model. His parents want him to be more like Pete. I believe Louie does try, just not in the way his parents are talking about.

ReplyDeleteI think both boys are very similar which is why they both resemble their mother. I agree with Kazi that Pete is Louie's role model and is probably trying to follow or replicate everything Pete does. I don't think that Louie was named after his mother although I am not positive. I have never heard of a boy being named after his mother, however, it could absolutely be true. I think Pete probably did get his mischievous ways from his mother and Louie followed him. In addition, I believe the similarities between Louise and Louie probably stemmed from the amount of him they spent together. The book states that Louie's father worked a lot to provide for their family so the children's similarities to their mother was probably from the amount of time they spent together.
